As you may know, the current initiative to repeal High Speed Rail has been temporarily suspended by its sponsors, former Congressman George Radonovich and current State senator Doug LaMalfa. I have included a link to their press release for your reference. [ http://www.revoterail.com/ ]
Whether you are a fiscal conservative member of the Tea Party or a concerned environmentalist who belongs to the Sierra Club, it is apparent that the legislature is determined to ignore you on this issue. That is why a new initiative will soon be drafted and circulated.
In the meanwhile, it is important that you know that your efforts have not been in vain. This issue has generated support across the political spectrum. Talk radio, especially the John and Ken Show on KFI640 has given wide publicity to your efforts. As a result, there is genuine bipartisan support among the electorate for the repeal of this incredibly wasteful and misguided utopian fantasy. Everywhere that is except the state legislature.
The political establishment in both parties is heavily invested in the status quo. If the political class were able or willing to fix our problems, they would not have happened in the first place. This is why we citizens must act. Given the recent actions of the Governor and the current composition of the state legislature, it is apparent that we will not be able to save our state through the normal electoral and legislative process. It may take 10-20 years to elect the right people and then reform the state. That will be too little too late. Our only alternative is to use the initiative process systematically and aggressively to reform and reengineer California for the 21st Century.
But we must first recognize that what appears to be — and is — a genuine crisis of leadership in California is really the byproduct of a deeper, underlying Crisis of Citizenship. We cannot effectively address our problems unless and until we take personal responsibility for has happened. This is where you come in.
In the next few years, we will be drafting and submitting to the California Attorney General a series of initiatives. The first of these will include Voter I. D., the repeal of AB 32 (“California Cap and Trade”), the repeal of so-called ‘High Speed’ Rail, tax and spending limitations, School Choice and welfare reform.
As a concerned and politically active citizen, you will be a key part of this effort. Please be patient as we organize for this effort. And in the meanwhile be in touch with to learn how we can help you get out the vote in your neighborhood in the upcoming election.
Once again, many thanks for your efforts. We will be in touch. If you have any questions, just call (1-626-792-1772) or email us (firstname.lastname@example.org).
